(Tartu, Tartumaa, Estonia)

Picture of the riverfrontAs one of Estonia's largest cities, Tartu features a good range of accommodation, with many central hotels based around the Raekoja Plats. Budget lodging in Tartu is fairly scarce and seasonal, with the best options including the Tähtvere Hostel on the Laulupeo Puiestee, and the Hiie Maja, a private house which is situated just a short walk to the west of the city centre itself.

Backpackers will find another popular alternative to hotels is the Tartu University Student Village, where cheap student dormitories are often available and provide clean and modern accommodation. Dormitory rooms are also available at the Hotell Tartu, which is conveniently located opposite the bus station.
